Today after class, a guy was chatting with me in the parent waiting area when he started removing his gi pants. I guess he forgot he was only wearing underwear under his pants. He realized his mistake and tugged them back up, but not before I saw he's apparently a briefs guy. :-D :-D :-D

What do you wear under your gi pants?

When I first started I was super-worried about a "wardrobe malfunction." I was also super self-conscious about my (male) teammates being able to see the top edge of my underwear when doing certain moves. I would wear actual 93Brand women's boxer short grappling underwear, spats, and shorts under my gi.

Then I got pregnant and would wear the 93Brand underwear (slid under the bump) and maternity yoga capris under my gi.

I've reached the point of "fuck it." I'll wear whatever underwear I want; I don't care who sees them peeking out. I don't wear spats under my gi pants anymore, they're too slick. I usually wear regular athletic leggings (mine are PopFit). They have a bit more friction than spats.

If any of our ladies are lurking, I'd love to know how they roll. (In gi pants---literally.)

Compression shorts always and forever at the academy. At home regular old boxer briefs or compression shorts. Pics available on my onlyfans. Lol

Usually shorts. Mostly because I train kickboxing after BJJ. It's become the norm for me now, so sometimes even on days when I don't plan on kickboxing after I still wear shorts.

I wear compression underwear then spats. I always wear spats and a rash guard or vale tudo shorts.

I'm a fan of compression I suppose.

Also, I like hugs. :) Compression of all sorts

I wear at least one other pair of gi pants under my gi pants. Just in case I start removing them accidentally in an inappropriate situation (as in Bridget’s original post) and also it’s always cold in Finland.

You shouldn't be allowed to stick your hand down someone's pants, even if it's just your fingers to grip the waistband. In a judo match if one person started pantsing the other it would be an immediate stoppage and reset to prevent the athlete from having to be exposed like that.

Yeah I always get kind of nervous when coach teaches passes that involve reaching behind the person and grabbing their gi pants.

I always tell myself not to grab their underpants AND I SOMEHOW ALWAYS DO. :-D :-D :-D

Unless you're actually training yağlı güreş, I guess. :P

And yeah, I always wear spats/grappling tights under my gi trousers. :)

A cup. Always, a cup! Mostly because I’ve seen testicular torsion and am hoping that doesn’t happen to me anytime soon.

I mean you do know that in Japan, gi WAS actually THE underwear. So why would you want to wear ANYTHING under underwear? This just does not make sense...

(Compression shorts mostly, spats under gi tends to be too hot)

I am the same. I always wear a cup. I use shock doctor compression shorts. I had a few bad accidental hits in the family jewels when I was a blue belt. After my last bad one I went that day and bought a cup. Now the only time I get hit there is on the rare day that I forget my cup. My cup has also saved me many times when I am sparring MMA of Kickboxing. I also out of habit always wear a mouthpiece when I am rolling.

I used to always wear a cup, however as BJJ comps explicitly prohibit I think it makes sense to practice for that.

(Good old "Sometimes you have to consider, if finishing this armbar makes you more of a man or less.")

Also I care less nowadays since I already have 3 kids (with whom also the chance of getting kneed in the family jewels while playing is really high).
