If members of beltchecker that are not verified think we ENJOY DISPUTING user profiles WE DON'T. We actually HATE it, we hate the back lash we get from it. But we LOVE this site and want it to remain a valuable site, where the jiu-jitsu community has a place to go that has legitimate value. If profiles are allowed to be validated with no documentation, it breaks down the sanctity of the beltchecker website. It also ends up allowing FAKE belts to slip through to be validated, like one that has been proven out on this very forum, We all know how the the BJJ community outs fake belts. Do we really want FAKE belts showing up and getting validated without any documented proof? I also want to point out that when we DISPUTE a profile it IS NOT AN ATTACK ON YOUR BELT LEGITIMACY, it's about documenting your jiu-jitsu journey, your legacy. By doing so makes it easier to validate your profile.

Fake account caught and disputed.
Of course the account was deactivated by the person when he realized the jig was up.
Beltchecker works!
I hope there is an archive with the photos submitted for future attempts by the same person.

This time with both faked diplomas AND faked IBJJF card.
I've said it a thousand times: Diplomas and IBJJF documentation by itself is not reliable evidence. They have been forged before and will be forged again.
If you see someone on Beltchecker with a diploma pic, there's a 95+% probability that the certificate is legit. If you even see someone with no evidence at all on Beltchecker claiming to have a certain rank, there's probably a 90+% probability of the claims being true.
But is it really beltchecking up voting in those instances? Let's go for some quality verifications here!

I always take a few moments to look at pictures of promotion and pictures of diploma. I also consider social media to be a pretty good way to do quick research. If a person is often tagging themselves and a Gym in training pictures that is pretty good indicator they put the work in.....just my opinion.

I, as a noobie to this forum, have not updated my rank and picture after reading through some of the comments on the disputed walls. It gets so heated over if you are qualified to have a piece of fabric around your waist. Thank you all for doing what you do but that is something that I could not do consistently.

The site is called BeltChecker for a reason.
If someone does not want or can't handle any scrutiny, they should not register here.

I am amazed at how little effort that some people put into.. If you are not going to add any pics, vids etc why even bother with the registration process

True, Phillip. And it only takes a few pictures and some brief words to make a case for validation.

I am amazed at how much time people spend "researching" strangers on the internet for Jiu Jitsu. Lol. Stalker alert!

Actually we don't spend much time, either your document well, or you don't. If you don't, you get disputed.
If jiu-jitsu is all about the details to make a technique to work with little effort, then shouldn't filling you your profile on a jiu-jitsu website 🤔 ?

I personally think this platform is great. Validation is important, especially with the ever increasing popularity of the sport. Bound to be frauds. This is a great method of validation for those who don't compete. It's easy for those of us who compete or those of us who come from well known gyms. If you don't care or see the need for it, don't be a part of it 🤷🏻♂️

Guys, seriously, we’re avoiding the biggest problem here. Bigger than disputing profiles, fake black belts, fake accounts, or the insidious lazy profile. What are we going to do about the missing blue belts. Where did they go? Why aren’t they training anymore? Profiles stuck in limbo. So many cursed to remain as blue belts forever.

Should there be a bot that automatically deletes blue belt profiles after * months/years of inactivity?

How many months or years though? No bot can figure out this problem without some serious invasion on privacy. Plus have you seen my profile? OMG. The no-gi and mma bug hit me hard. Mark my words this will be a big issue. We had another blue belt just disappear last week.

Data could be uploaded and verified by team mate/coach/promoting instructor since they won't likely be voluntarily admitting they are quitting...

I know several very legitimate black belts who have made profiles on BeltChecker but never followed through with the verification process. I've often wished I could vote for them anyhow. Perhaps it would give them the incentive to complete their profiles.

Someone should start a (paid subscription obv) site called BeltApprover :D

I think the infamous Rocco Nikil may already started that site.

It's alien abductions. The disappearance is part of a vast conspiracy. The Reptilian overlords are abducting them since a Blue Belt in BJJ can beat anyone they are going to be used to take over the planet

Basically because our professor said we should either do this or register with IBJJF so that if he got hit by a bus there would be some kind of verification of our belt when we went to a different school after his untimely demise. And some of us are not big pic and video takers. I don't think I've got a single picture of either of my promotions or any video of me training. I'm sure they exist, I just didn't have any taken and don't have any in my possession that I know of. All I have are my certificates, which these days would likely be questioned because anyone can make a certificate.

How exactly does one resolve a dispute on their profile?
Looking through forum posts all I've been able to discover is:
- Disputes are not an attack on you or your character but just the profile on the site
- Pics with promoting professors are not the best because they can be staged
- Diplomas or certificates are not necessarily great because those can be forged
- It's up to the community to decide their own metric for when to call someone out or not and there is not an objective measurement that I have found on how to resolve a dispute.
Any advice or tips?
