I just got back to training after a year of not having a partner, now I am mandated to isolate for 2 weeks again!!! Arghhh! A classmate of my son and his sibling tested positive for covid, so the schools shut down and all kids and their families have to isolate. Frustrating.

Unless I had symptoms I would never quarantine. Asymptomatic spread is very rare. I know the corona bros are gonna say no, but there is research that shows asymptomatic spread is very rare.

Well it's a mandated isolation. How can I break the law (quarantine act of Canada) while working in law enforcement? Pretty sure that would be the loss of a job. Not that I care that much because I fucking hate my job, but my wife and kids depend on it.

Sorry to hear man! It’s such a slow burn the on and off again. I’m hoping the time goes by quickly, and you can get right back to it. But seriously I’m sorry to hear you’re back to isolating.

There's evidence in the reverse as well. It's a matter of picking which one you prefer to believe.

Move to Texas.
If you know of a place in need of mma/bjj coach, I'm all ears. Leaving Europe starts to look like the decision to make.

Well, at least in Estonia until government was lax with restrictions - the cases climbed and hospitals filled up. Now stronger regulations (including no indoor training) have been in place for 3 weeks and the new cases has started to come down.

We are still hoping for a normal summer (which we had last year).

I would agree with Brian and break the quarantine but your case is different since you work in law enforcement and enforce said rules. It sucks to have to quarantine after just starting to train again. You need your job to support your family.

Zaragoza, Spain. We've been without a coach for about 4 months now... the gym has got a gym saying he's coming over from Portugal next month..... but every month its next month.
Ill speak to the gym if I hear nothing and give you their contact.

Look on the bright side, at least you can train. The way things are looking in Belgium I think we can forget about BJJ this year. Our politicians promised a normal summer, but then again they said the same thing about spring.
We were only closed for a few weeks back in 2020. We have only had 2 cases in our gym, coach and one other -- both popped positive around the same time. Coach rolled with everyone before he found out and no one else got it.

Ooo, interesting! I'm only a brown belt, but I am 100% planning to buy a house in Spain (for staying over the winter, back in the UK for the rest of the year) and open an affiliate school there in future. I love Spain, I've also been heading over regularly to various areas to see which areas I like enough to want to live there (my favourite so far was Lo Pagán).

So it is useful to know which areas in Spain don't have much BJJ: what I'm looking for is somewhere in or near a university town, not too far from the coast and not too windy (which rules out most of the Costa de la Luz, whereas the Costa de la Sol is a little too pricey and touristy for me, though I haven't fully explored the options yet). :D

What about Canary Islands?
Tenerife was nice when I visited, so that is indeed an excellent choice for winter sun. But as a long term prospect where I'd want to have a house and start an affiliate gym, I've got four main problems with the Canary Islands:

1. Expensive

2. There is already at least one very well established gym there, run by a native English speaker (Ben Poppleton, IIRC), meaning I'd lose a possible USP

3. Not enough culture for my liking, compared to the incredibly rich cultural treasures on the mainland. I adore Spanish art and the art galleries in Madrid especially, so I would want to be within a train ride of the Prado

4. It's too far from Bristol. I want to be able to hop on a plane repeatedly so I could easily bounce between my prospective BJJ school in Spain and my affiliates in the UK

Lockdown wins:

In Estonia stricter rules (no indoor training) at least until 25th of April and possibly longer.

I could do like 5-6 pullups for a few years now.

I can do 15 strict pullups now (again)... used to be able to do like 30 in my prime.

And I could do 2 with +40 kg back then (~73 kg BW), now can do 2 with +20 kg at 83 BW.

Getting bored and doing pullups at home FTW.

Awesome! Yeah, I want to install a pull up in my house and have wanted to for ages, but housemate is not up for it sadly.

João is awesome! Visited him in September 2019!

(Can, I have a doorframe one I just put up when I pull and then take it down after.)

Housemate bans that too, they are worried about anything whatsoever relying on the structure of the house (and to be fair to them, it's a crappily built 1892 Victorian terrace). Frustrating, but meh, I can live without pull up bars to have a more peaceful life. ;)

I've considered some kind of free standing frame for the garden, that might work. Or growing a tree big enough that it might have a thick branch I could use as a pull up bar (problem there is the garden is kinda small and there are water pipes underneath it, so growing a big tree would be risky).

I taught at one of his affiliates. All good folks and by all accounts Joao is a cool head. Haven't officially met in person though only via facebook.

We are 100% mask free, up to businesses whether they want to limit or require face coverings. Letting us be adults. Lowest rate of infections and hospitals since June here in Texas.

And our class was the biggest it had been since pre lockdowns these last 2 weeks.

Awesomeness! Texas!

I mean this guy to my left was a lightweight before the lockdown (I am on the right, I am 6 foot 225 lbs). Get back in the gyms and get healthy!
