I just realized today it's 9 years since I got my black belt and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to beat myself from back then (younger, less limitations of game from injuries, in competition shape). My defensive postures now are 100x better though, but I would be way behind on physique. I predict a close loss on points, maybe 0-3.

Black belts, how would you do against your day 1 black belt self? :)

Bonus: A lot of profiles who I voted for will receive +25 points today, you're welcome!

Without a doubt I would beat my future black belt self's ass (I know that wasn't the question, but the answer is real).

Pre covid layoff, I would kick his ass. I got my elbow fixed and now have a strong working left arm that I didn't when I got my belt. Game wise, I upped my pressure passes too. But yeah, today with covid layoff, I'd gas in a minute.

I got my Black Belt 10 years ago and at 47 now I would say I am in as good a shape as I was then but I'm not surrounded by people that are better than me like I was then. So it's hard to say. My overall game is WAY better than it was so I have more options. But I think my timing is WAY off.

So difficult....

I probably would win then and not now. My timing rolling 100% with another Black Belt just wouldn't be right.

My game is better but my body has been so busted up that I would give it to old me by injury loss or points unless I pulled something sneaky out but doubtful

Due to the pandemic, all my training has been cerebral. I’d gas out against myself

Myself from 4 years ago would demolish me today. I got old and fat really fast.

It's like the great American poet Toby Kieth said, "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was."

Purple belt Francesco would overwhelm black belt Francesco on the S&C area (plus a lot of more aggressiveness) but I'm confident in the defensive game of black belt Francesco to have him victorious at the end of the day. Black belt Francesco compared to first degree black belt Francesco (just waiting on Octavio to pass by and put that stripe on the belt, time has been served), I actually think I managed some improvement on all fronts, technical and physical.

I think I'm in a similar situation... Purple belt Vince would be more '$6million man' on Black Belt Vince, but 1st degree Vince wouldn't lose due to lack of defense now to 2nd degree Vince. The past 6 years of training has been fruitful and productive.

Tenth anniversary of black belt, our coach said: I don’t know if I could beat the guy of ten years ago, but I could definitely teach him some things.

The depth of knowledge me know would beat me back a few years ago, but the younger me would have the advantage in the strength and endurance. I have been lucky to have avoided injuries, whether my conditioning routine made a difference or not I don't know. At this point it think it would be a draw, even though I have more traps than I did then.

I would be able to beat blackbelt self from 2016. I would've had a little better cardio then because I had just finished MMA but I still have very pretty cardio and I have had several years to refine my techniques and add some more. It would be a close match but current me would win on points, maybe a sub if I was able to pull a sneaky one. Match would be 8-7 current me the victor.

Hold up, are we talking injury free, no body aches, or actual physical condition? I just suffered a knee injury the other day (please be a bad sprain and no ligament tear), so right now my white belts can beat me LOL.

Injury free, could I beat the me from 7 years ago? I actually think yes, I'm still in the positive of that training sine wave, I haven't hit the negative yet.

Me today.

I know where my past self would be, and I would set a plate of chicken wings in his path.

Then when my past self sat down to eat the wings, and let his guard down,

I would trick him into talking about controversial topics,

And I would use our modern techniques of political correctness and cancel culture to cancel his ass, permanently.

Take that, mothafuckas.

You can always use the current techniques of political correctness and cancel culture against someone's past selves to cancel their ass.

That is elementary cancel culture 101.

It's the new heel hooks, and neck cranks, only nastier.

2021 me would probably still be able to wrestlecrawlcrush his way though 2015 me's guard, and katagatame the bejeesus out of 2015 me, and then fall into a deep, dreamless, oblivious sleep of exhaustion.

I've learned so much more after I received my black belt, including competitions and how to train for them. I'd kick my first year black belt self. Pre-covid, of course.
