The verification bottle neck is not the system, it’s the users :)

Looking at the numbers here behind the scenes, one thing is very clear: Those who complete their profiles have a very high chance of getting verified in a relatively short time.

The bottle neck (in terms of speed) is that a lot of people don’t properly fill out their promotion history and verify their ID. If they did, there’s a better chance that someone in their (near or distant) network will stumble over their profile and verify them.

Bottom line: The system works (almost 500 profiles are verified in just two weeks, starting from pretty much scratch). But it requires that you and your friends complete your profiles :) Empty profiles will get us nowhere!

I find it funny that people that practice a martial art/sport that is so detail oriented can't follow simple directions. Lol!

The way the profile completion system is formatted makes it very satisfying to finish. Everything looks so cool when it starts to come together.

Yeah wouldn't it be a bit boring if verification was instant and took no effort? :)

I dont mind how long the verification takes, but I enjoy alot, that I feel my life is organised and in order. Havent really payed any attension ever, to keep a book of belts, promotions or any other achievments. With this I feel Im a grown up, I can have my life in order. Thank you for that

There do seem to be isolated populations, though. There's a whole lot of BJJ in California, USA ... but very, very few "verified" accounts out here. It seems to be a barrier or bottleneck to get the first couple verified. Perhaps once it gets started with a couple, there will be a waterfall of mutually-supporting California accounts.

Yes any new area will take some time to grow, we’re only at the very beginning and you’re all early adopters :)

I think we are experiencing that in the Mid-Western US, as there are large pockets of BJJ practitioners separated by hours of travel. That said, if we don't know some of the folks already in the system, we have to rely on someone "happening" upon our profile and seeing it for what it is. I've only had one person do this, the other few are people I know or who know my instructor.

Everything was uploaded yesterday... Only thing left is for my photo to be verified :)
Nothing is awaiting in the system, so if you uploaded a verification photo it must have been rejected. Try again :)

As a low-level recreational player that doesn't really travel or compete, I expect it will just be a while until enough local folks join. No European black belt is going to recognize me from globetrotters camp! But HUGE props to the site team for being so fast at the ID validation. That's not a bottleneck at all. And my 11yo daughter is pretty happy that she's verified legit before I am. She enjoyed the process of documenting her milestones, adding some photos and video links, and seeing it nicely laid out in a profile. Another thing I really like about requiring the complete profile is how it instantly enables the stats to be pretty complete. I've seen forums over the years where people had to do painstaking surveys to try and put together some of that stuff.

Let's just debunk the myth that this site is mostly European black belts verified so far ;)

It is definitely the users, and in particular their reading comprehension. Thanks for the clarification Christian!

I've been encouraging all and sundry to sign up, as after all you can never have too many social media platforms! :D

Stumbling block for a number of people seems to be they don't realise there is another step after you've uploaded your photo and had that okayed. Also including me: I didn't realise for ages that you then have to click the 'verify' thing again to upload a pic of yourself holding up a bit of paper with your name and Beltchecker ID. I will keep poking my students and friends. ;)

Without non-teammates looking at my profile and voting for my verification, I don’t have a shot at getting the points to be verified anytime soon. Even if I got everyone at my academy to sign up, they wouldn’t be able to vote yet, because they’d be in the same scenario.... Yes, some of the bottleneck is due to lack of following directions, but without verified members making a push to judge & give points to strangers, many of us will remain at a standstill.
Agreed.
I got quick 700 points... But from now on I'm at the mercy of people who don't know me.

same here :) did already get one vote from someone outside of the people i know, is there any inventive to vote on unknown profiles yet?

I see signups coming from the netherlands, but not enough people verified yet to get the ball rolling I feel like.

Funny that in an art that we all know takes time and patience to make progress, people are in such a frenzy when they don't get the instant gratification of being verified as soon as they hit save on their profile. As in all things in life, be patient. The sense of entitlement from some folks is unreal. Kind of eye opening.
When someone votes for you take the time to at least thank them for taking the time to look at your profile. Remember, no one is obligated to do anything on your behalf.
I am not talking about anyone in particular but just in the general sense. If you read these forum threads and posts, you will see it too.

I agree it's the users, and in particular the users not going through the steps to verify their ID, that's the bottleneck. But from what I hear locally, it's not so much reading comprehension problems; it's deciding that it isn't worth the hassle. It's precisely the people who are long-experienced, widely known, well-established, secure in their reputations, and have plenty of students attending their schools who could instantly make this thing take off, and unless they just buy into the coolness of the idea, they're not highly incentivized to spend an hour building a profile and send in their credit card info and belt-checker mug shots. But the show-runners here seem pretty happy with the growth rate so far, not inclined to chase down anyone, and they are highly responsive to the people who have bought in. The general vibe seems to be: look, if people like this, they'll do it. If they don't, they won't. Also from a tech and bugs perspective, it's probably good that it NOT grow too fast.
