Hello fellow Belt Checker Community,

I have a favour to ask. Some of you may have heard about the crazy lockdown restrictions going on around the world, including where I live, Sydney, Australia. As we are in lockdown for an undetermined amount of time, I would like to supplement my training study with some Wrestling for Jiu Jitsu, most likely more of a Freestyle Wrestling approach. What do you recommend as the best Wrestling instructional for Jiu Jitsu?

Note: I have a basic level of wrestling and Judo skills and am not totally new to these arts, however I would like to dive a little deeper in my study of these great complementary arts the same way I do for Jiu Jitsu. The reality though is that I would mainly find myself practicing a lot of shadow wrestling and doing some light drilling with my wife and to young sons. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Felipe

Check into mixing some Catch Wrestling into your BJJ game. Neil Melanson has some good stuff for mixing catch and BJJ.

Maybe I am biased but I just can't seem to get my head around how these guys call what they teach "Catch Wrestling"...

Well, they feel that's where their roots are, also branding etc... I like to call it all jiu jitsu...

Fair point... But most of them never actually had a "Catch Wrestling" Coach? They learnt various grappling arts and rebranded...

Side note, I love your wrestling instructionals thank you Jorgen! Just what I was looking for.

As far as wrestling goes, I really like Chael Sonnen's wrestling videos. Available on Fanatics.

Zack Esposito -Intro to wrestling (youth) https://fanaticwrestling.[...]h-esposito

I found this one good for some skills drills fundamentals. Great for the kids but also good fundamentals for everyone. Chael Sonnen's Video was great also not BJJ Specific but with your knowledge of BJJ will have no issues transitioning between the 2.

Ahem... https://youtu.be/Kce0tygtddU and https://youtu.be/B09sR0GpVAE :) (If nothing more, they might give you ideas in regards how to drill with ppl not that familiar with wrestling.)
Just wanted to give you props for the first video (just watched the whole thing). I attended a wrestling seminar a couple of years ago and discovered the bicep tie. Shocking that I had not discovered that in all my years of doing jiu jitsu. It completely changed my standing game. Bicep tie for the win.

You can well use it in guard and passing as well (especially butterfly). :)
