I recently had to leave the gym I have been affiliated with for almost 20 years over the vaccine mandates. I have been a purple belt for the last three years. I have my own students and I plan to keep teaching them out of a new location. That being said I will need to find a new black belt to affiliate with so I can continue on my journey. What is the process for finding an affiliation when there has been a breakdown of the student teacher relationships over non jujitsu related problems? Thanks Arin

The mandate was upheld in federal court they can't apply mandates until all courts ie: Supreme Court rules on this issue. As of now federal Court ruled the mandate is unconstitutional. Atleast in the United States

Contact the black belt(s) you want to affiliate with with, ask what their process is (dues, seminars, merchandising, etc), go from there.

Why do you need an affiliation? If you're starting your own thing anyway, then why do you need to bring in a black belt for the purpose of anything other than doing promotions?

Like what Robert asked, why the need to affiliate with another black belt?
If an affiliation gives you confidence, curriculum, sense of belonging or getting a higher belt to award ranks then that 'might' be a good reason but not absolutely necessary.

Also it largely depends on what 'you' want out of your BJJ journey first and foremost (ie, competition, self defense, martial art lifestyle, etc.) , then your students/group will follow your lead. Some will cost others will be low cost and you will get what you pay for in most cases.

Can you maintain your affiliation with Dan Moroney?
So many teams and black belts to choose from in Ontario.
Really depends on what your are looking for and trying to build.
You also have Richard "Monkey" Nancoo in Sudbury which is closer than the GTA.
He is an absolute beast in every regard and probably the best grappler in Ontario.

I see no problem for you in finding a new affiliation or simply stay unaffiliated globetrotter like.
It all depends on your approach and if it fits to the approach and requirements of the new affiliation/ coach, I think

After leaving my first affiliation (was a blue belt with small study group) I just trained and learned with blackbelt friends from various affiliations, but I was missing structure, guidance and a curriculum I could follow to teach and train. So in the end I formally affiliated with one of my black belt friends and for me personally it gives me more structure and I can 100% identify with the approach and the curriculum.

Out of curiosity, if it is a mandate being enforced by your government how are you planning on skirting it by affiliating with a different bb? Or is it a compliance thing?

They sell them for 20.00 on amazon..

Honestly why are you affiliating?

Is it just for ranking?

Is it for technical improvement?

Is it to become a better teacher and get a strong curriculum

If I was in your position I would keep teaching and doing my thing and find someone to affiliate with who had similar goals for the art
