As far as I know, I have not had it.
Dodged it for almost 2 years. And then couldn't dodge it any longer

Haven't gotten it. Fully vaccinated and boostered, and started training again after lockdown in IL in August 20, then stopped December 20-Mid Jan 21, then since then been going...

Hopefully I don't get it but BJJ isn't exactly the least likely activity to have people breathe on you :D

Yup got covid in 3/2020 when it first hit nyc. Was fortunate to have recovered without noticeable side effects. I only started training again this summer. Now I’m fighting to get my grappling cardio back and not get smashed

I got it early on before it hit the news in Dec 2019.
Was sick for over 3 months.
My Dr was mystified and had me do chest X-rays etc.
Was never tested for it as they were not testing for it then.
Had no idea until we had a conversation recently and he brought it up.
He said now he thinks I had it early on and that is why he could not get a proper diagnosis.
Anyway at the time he treated me with Azithromycin at the time.
Oh well too late to worry about it now.

(Move to off topic)

Infected October 2020 and have been exposed to it at least 3-4 times since where I felt something was in my body but didn't "manifest" in actual infection. Antibodies were hard at work.

Be safe Professor. The omicron variant is better at evading natural immunity. We are not clear yet if this means the illness is going to be any worse

Get well! Hopefully it doesn't take your sense of taste. That one is a bitch. A friend of ours got it a year ago and still doesn't have her sense of taste back. Apparently everything with fat in it tastes like lamp oil.

As far as I'm aware I've avoided it. I did have a cold/flu 2 weeks ago, which I got from my wife. She tested negative for covid. That was the first time I've been sick in 2 years. Not counting pollen allergies.

Just want this world to go back to normal again.

Got the Vax first, test to see if I had antibody protection a month later, the results cam back that I had no antibody protection. I knew then it was a matter of time before I was going to get covid.

I had it last year. It was pretty mild, thankfully. Just intermittent fever for about a day then I was tired and sore for a few days.

A month or so ago I had a kid with covid literally breathe in my face (he didn't know he had covid until the next day) and nothing happened. So that's comforting I guess

Here's a good question from someone on a different thread:

"Sorry for possibly triggering question but how the hell do you deal with antivaxx being so prevalent in BJJ circles?"

Been lucky, I never stopped training and have been exposed many times. I don't want covid either.

SMACK 'EM with the facts. If they don't believe science, just walk away slowly. Can't argue with stupid.

I agree that this is a strange phenomena that I've also witnessed. For being practitioners of a martial art that is so reality-based, it was surprising for me to see so many people; influential and regular Joes alike, who are also so opposed to vaccinations.

Thanks for migrating the thread.

I haven’t met many individual teammates who are anti vax (at least not to my face) but as far as social media goes, unfortunately many grapplers/mma fighters I used to look up to are either anti vax or anti mitigation strategy.

One one hand I get that things like mandates and shut downs threaten their livelihood and in that sense I can understand being upset and fighting against something that threatens your livelihood. But the weight that these athletes and coaches carry ripples through large amounts of people and overall I’ve been disappointed by the vitriol. I limit my social media time now.

I’ve done my best to share information regarding COVID and the vaccine during a couple of talks with Stephen Kesting.

Personally since there aren’t any widespread shutdowns in the US right now, it’s taken serious risk assessment and self control for me to pull back from training during this latest surge since training continues here.

If someone is willing to have a good faith conversation with me, I’m willing to take the time, but since I talk about the vaccine all day with patients, I dont have the bandwidth to look for arguments outdoor work

Did you all get your annual flu shots? If not, then you really shouldn't talk about vaccines at all. I get mine annually.

I am very pro vaccine but I am definitely anti mandates. No one should be forced to do anything for anyone.

Anti Mandate is not anti vaxx by any measure. That is the first thing you need to figure out with person in question.
Science is all about questioning, proving and disproving. It is a constant evolution. So don't know what you mean about questioning science but whatever.
I don't believe in the censorship of medical professionals and scientists with opposing views either. I want to hear all sides all the time.
I don't believe in silencing people. They should be educated and informed. Not shouted down because you think they are "stupid". That in and of itself is a stupid notion.
I like Nick's approach. He is willing to take the time to inform and educate. Anything else is just plain old bullying.

I know my response will not be a popular one but I don't really care what you think about anything other than jiu jitsu and even then I take opinions with a grain of salt.

A large concern is when the heads of these companies switch back and forth between working for the FDA and Pfizer/Moderna etc interchangeably.

They don't care about our health. They care about making money. They try to get any generic product banned that may be useful.

Research on some things being locked away for 3 generations and so on.

It's very hard to trust any of these companies or the governments when money is involved. This entire thing has been used to just make the rich richer and the consequences of inflation are going to last longer than anything else along with all the new laws they create as an excuse for your protection just like 9/11.

Also when there is an actual real deadly pandemic all cause deaths will greatly increase instead of staying basically the same. Somehow for the first time in history a "deadly" pandemic hasn't caused all cause deaths to increase. The average age of covid death is higher than life expectancy. No one wants older and immune compromised people to suffer or die. But causing wide spread panic and ruining the economy and mental health of so many is not the solution. Proper education and protocols are a better solution. Maybe not put all the old people in the same spots. Maybe don't bring your grandkids to visit your grandparents getting them sick and so on.

In all likely hood in the future you will see commercials on tv that say if you took such and such vaccine please call this lawyer office to file your claim.

I'm about to have a child born in a couple months and I am completely for certain vaccines that he will need. They have been tested for decades and are important. Some of them are mandatory I am sure and some are not. I am sure I will research them and even make sure he gets several shots that are not mandatory because it's in his or everyone else's best interest.

Covid has red flags all over it and just blindly agreeing with the people making money off of it is not logical. What I have known since the entire thing started is how virus's evolve is that they become more contagious over time and less deadly. And that is exactly what is happening. More contagious and less deadly. People have allowed fear to cause more damage than this virus ever could have or will. "Fear is a sickness. It will crawl into the soul of anyone who engages it."

The Those Who Remain quote is nearing its cycle. “Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

In general when your opinions are the same as just about everyone else's then you don't have any opinions.
