It wouldn't be nice to have your nationality on your profile?

Maybe somebody had this idea before, but don't you think would be nice have your nationality on your profile and languages spoken?

Nationality in addition to the location where you currently live? Being able to list languages spoken might be nice, but you could also just write this in your profile description if you think it would be important to someone reading your profile.

It would be quite easy to implement, but I'm not sure exactly how relevant it would truly be for the profile. If enough people disagree, we can build it :)

That's for sure. I think is just a nice feature to think about it. I think it can facilitate the communication, also different nationalities, different culture, different point of view. Sometimes if you know the nationality of the other people that you are talking to, you understand why his opinion is differs so much from what you believe is right.

True. You can write in your profile for sure however you think is relevant. This feature could be optional like other fields are in your profile. As example I clearly can see in you profile that you are from USA if I want to, however I do not know if I could send a message directly for you in Portugueses or Spanish that I'm more familiar instead of English that is my 4th language and I'm still learning. Because I know where you are from also gives me an idea why sometimes we can agree or disagree.
Anyway, I think is a good topic to have in the forum to discuss.

Right on. Looks like you're an expat residing in the US. In your case I can see how a "nationality" feature might be appealing, and if it's easy to implement then i say go for it.
The language feature might be cool as well, although I can count on my fingers how many times I've actually been successful at communicating via the message feature on this site, even in my own native language (English) so maybe it's not relevant?
The more I think about it though, the more I like the ideas of these features, since I'm partially using my profile like a resume/CV, and I would most likely include languages spoken on a standard resume...

I live in the UK and I only found out Erico was Brazillian because I noticed all/majority of his graduations were in Brazil.
So I assumed and typed a greetings in Portuguese.
I think would be a nice feature. Not a must have but a nice to.

Yeah, that would be cool! Where you live does not necessarily mean you're actually from there, so I would much prefer to have a separate box for location and nationalities. :D
Only problem I'd have is that some of us require multiple boxes (or a free text field, but that would soon get messy). In terms of official nationalities, I've got Turkish, German and British, which is distinct from my ethnicity, and also doesn't quite relate to the languages I speak (poorly, but meh, I do speak them ;) ).
And I know there are various people with a load more, who don't like picking just one (we insist on being difficult :P ).

In this line of thought, was just wondering how many people here are coaches/instructors/trainers/professors. I know not every black belt is a teacher and not every teacher is a black belt. Would it be useful if you were listed here as an instructor to have that show up on your profile (e.g. red bar on your belt and/or instructor double stripes for black belts) instead?

It's already there. Plus you can have your students / people you promoted listed.
But I don't believe there is enough of a standard for "instructors stripes" or whatever that is, to actually implement that visually. Don't think that would make much sense.

I mean having it show on your belt icon under your profile pic. I'm aware of this one you pointed out.
Yes there isn't a standard but individuals can disclose whether they are instructors or not via a radio button toggle that displays a red bar for colour belts or double stripes for black belts. More info in addition to the flags and languages

I just don't think there's enough of a standard for "instructor belts" to do that. People use all kinds of colors, stripes, etc. and it would only become a mess of everyone wanting their own standard visually implemented. So I'm gonna pass on that :)

To my knowledge there's the Royce Blue bar instead of the more common Red bar. I'm not aware of any others? Anyway just a thought

There was a recent debate about this and I can count the first 10 different ways of dealing with "professor stripes", "instructor stripes", "competitor bar" that I've heard of :)

Fair point. It is what it is... although the Royce contingent could also fuss about using a Blue rank bar but are ok (?) with the current red one on the site so it may not be such a pain if it's auto toggled if the member has a gym and named students?

I'll hijack this thread into "Useless things Christian should implement for the sake of working pointlessly".
A function to move the bar of the belt under our profile picture, to the left or the right side according to the Tradition™ of your gym.

And even if we came up with a standard for bars and instructor tabs, what about non-black belts who are instructors? Would they get a red bar and tabs on, say, a purple belt?
This reminds me... I did see a dude with a red bar on his blue belt at a tournament the other day. It was... interesting...

It’s just a visual indicator that you’re an instructor. Beltchecker has a much better way of confirming that anyway: By validation of relationship from actual students’ profiles with verified IDs. Much better and more reliable than some 1970s technology of an analog piece of colored fabric to show it.

Languages always are important. At least if thisplatform ist Form communication purpose too. Nationaly helps to identify people. So I guess both are nice features?
