What's your jiu-jitsu resolution for this year for you and your school if you're a coach?

For myself: 1. get into far better condition than I currently am(drop around 65lbs). 2. Earn my brown belt. 3. Place higher at No-Gi Worlds and Masters Worlds.

For my gym and students: 1. Get a bigger space(its the $$$). 2. Grow my student numbers(more variety for training partners). 3. Help my students grow in knowledge and ability.

Me:

Do not die.

Stay as injury free as possible.

Train.

School:

Stay the place where people can grow and train in a way they want.

I'd be nice to stay injury free (probably not realistic though). I'd also like to be able to go visit some other academies this year.

Competing more and slowly transitioning away from Masters and down to adult for at least local and national tournaments. Also iron out my game plan more and also build up the team a bit more and help them win some shiny medals.

I want to train better. I want to push myself to get in better physical condition, get healthier and stay healthy. Compete at least 2 times with my team. I just want to keep grinding.

I have no real resolution for the new year. I
just try to be on the mat as consistent as possible under the given (covid) circumstances and getting the most out of it without
loosing the balance (family, job, Jiu Jitsu, Health).

Get the knee surgery, recover and get back to training for myself.
I am going in for an MRI next week for my knee. Looks like we both might be looking at some much needed knee surgery.

For me
1. Try and keep injuries away
2. Train more leglocks "the modern system". Any recommendations on instructional Ryan vs Jones? They moved away before I got to visit P.R.
3. Do a clean handstand.

Gym
1. Keep teaching and making Jiu Jitsu fun for the kids
2. Grow the kids team

We are now in the 5th lockdown in Norway and BJJ is illegal again (to have organized open classes). it was illegal to do it in the major lockdown between march 2020 and until june 2021. Myself and all other enthusiasts was stuck in garages and private homes, and now we are again. The happiness i had last summer training with my friends again, and see our club thrive was one of the best times of my life. To have this lockdown again now was a real kick to the balls. So my resolution is: make the best out of each session, and try not to miss a single one when it opens up again.

Take at least one class every month from another BJJ coach to broaden my knowledge and perspective of the art.

re:leg locks instructionals
I watched
Danaher's Enter the System - Leglocks
Lachlan's Leglocks Anthology
Recently "Get Off My Legs, Gringo" by Craig Jones.

in teaching the escapes, Craig Jones does a great job reviewing the basics of what makes every position work in the first place
Lachlan's was great too, and I love his outside-sankaku position and how he gets there.
Danaher's stuff is very good too imho, but I'd recommend the Aussies anyway ^^

my resolution :
- +1 to all the "injury free" posts
- relax more in training
- trying to push everyone, including myself, to be the "training partner we wish we had" more (challenging but not crazy intensity, feedback, open to re-winds and troubleshooting positions, etc.)

have a great 2022 everyone!

I would like to really improve my leg locking and triangles... this year I would like to compete in a no gi expert division to get into it with heel hooks "for real". I would also like to get into a better rhythm with my stand up game, especially in terms of foot sweeping. If I can pull all that off, I will be pleased with myself.

Eh, maybe keep training. 2022 gonna be a tough year for me with lots of side plans so my simple wish is just to have enough time for training :(

My goal is to better manage some nagging/chronic injuries and keep a somewhat consistent training schedule throughout the year. If I can do that then I'd also love to start teaching.

Happy new year everyone!

Many of these started before the new year, but in 2022, changes I've made or making:

- Switched schools
- Learn and incorporate something new from every major position into my game
- I got mats and a dummy; start drilling consistently
- Started conditioning outside of class to supplement (Peloton)
- Started taking daily ice/cold baths
- Drill solo movements on off-training days

Overall, I want my jiu-jitsu to become more controlled and beautiful, for lack of a better word. I'm not the most athletic or flexible person, so I really want my jiu-jitsu to flow and look effortless, overall be more technical and intentional about every thing I do.
