I’ve been trying Priit Mihkelson’s running man and hawking positions and found them to be very helpful when I’m rolling with people who outclass me in skill/strength/stamina. It made a big difference in how often I got caught and how much energy I conserved. This is important for me as I get older and can’t get to class more than a nice or twice a week

I did a year on Priit's site defensivebjj.com when it first started and found it really helpful in improving my core defensive structures
Chris Paines has a lot of good content along those lines as well

I'm a big fan of Priit's research and discoveries. It has helped my understanding of the game tremendously too!

Wasn't impressed by the material but I decided to dedicate a month to it, to at least give it a fair shot. It's been a 1.5 years obsession now :D

I really want to dive in, but I almost don't know where to start. I really enjoy Priit's thoughts in interviews and things of that nature, though so that's good.

If I just went by the instructional (which is well structured and presented), I would’ve probably lost interest, but since the positional changes are already adapted to positions I’m comfortable with, I saw changes pretty quickly. Doesn’t I mean I’m untouchable but was thoroughly impressed thus far when a much better black belt wasn’t immediately submitting me

Maybe I’m doing it out of order but I started by watching his YouTube video on hawking and then got his running man instructional and haven’t even gotten that far into it

There's a "beginners' guide" on his website with a step-by-step recommendation on where to start, how to drill, etc. There's a $1 offer for a one-week trial, so you can go full binge on it for a week and worst case it had only cost you a dollar. It's https://www.defensivebjj.com/

I still hate the name. I do not buy the "he's a genius, it's a genius move" line: it's reducing him to his disability, IMO. But yeah, easy enough for me not to use that name in the gym (I call it either boxers shoulder or head to shoulder: naturally there's more to it than that, but meh), as it's still an interesting technique. :)

Hopefully I can make it to the seminar Priit is doing here in the UK in May, where he is focusing on just that technique, as I haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

That’s a fair statement.
