Erik, I've been watching his stuff since the mid nineties, before I had any formal training in BJJ. The WCC event was it for me (yes, the one with the hair pulling)

He's still putting out a tremendous amount of material. Seems to have been ahead of many, many curves in the grappling arts. He was putting everything together before people knew what was what.

Dude is an absolute legend.
That's all.

I follow you on this one, Erik Paulson is an Encyclopedia of submission grappling, and the guy seems to have a pretty good behavior.
I learn à lot of watching him too

The man has a lot of great stuff for sure. Some stuff that isn't really that useful, unless you're a big fellow that can overpower the opponent, but most of it is definitely great.

I've been watching his TikTok posts. I've always been a huge fan, but doesn't some of his stuff look like show holds and you'd never get in that position to use a lot of those submissions?

Never say never. But yes. And some of it is just big guy strength moves. Works for big guys though. :D

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how his students fair in BJJ or Submission Grappling competitions?

When I was in Vegas had a few of his guys stop in and saw some compete.

All were solid with more of a wrestling positional scrambling style than traditional BJJ

I started to train with Erik in 1995 and eventually became one of his first representatives here in Germany. Havent seen him in ages in person but still an avid follower. Unbelieveable knowledable guy! And a great teacher.

I’ve had the privilege as a complete noob to attend 2 of his seminars. He is a walking encyclopedia of grappling knowledge to the best I can tell. He has an answer to any question that can be thrown at him regardless of if being judo, bjj, kickboxing, etc. I appreciate his deep knowledge and also his ability to break down items so even a dumb white belt such as I could digest it.

When I was training with him, as a blue belt, his beginners never seem to fair well. No idea why. The higher ups did better but it is rare to see them compete much over here. I use to see them a lot at grappling x and jjwl back in 2008 - 13. It is a rarity these days, and it could be because Erik does not push them to compete as heavily, at least that is what I have been led to believe.

Erik Paulson is fantastic man. I have all his material and some that never made it to print. His style of grappling is what enhanced my leg attacks.

Paulson is a great teacher. I've been to a couple of his seminars and always walked away with some great techniques.
