I've never had a Moya or a ctrl gi before. I usually don't own too many gis at one time, but right now I'm in between sizes, so I think I own 8 atm (and 3 are judo gis).
Some of my favorite brands:
- Globetrotters (I have yet to find a better all-around travel gi).
- Datsusara (I love that they're always trying to improve on their hemp gis).
- a&p (fanciest gi I've ever owned, but their a1L fits like a frigging glove).
- Gold bjj (cheap, lightweight, ibjjf legal, if you know what I mean).
- atama (best fitting gi in the early 2000's).
- Tatami (I have a blue one I've been wearing for almost every ibjjf comp I've done in the past 3 years).
- Vanguard (very innovative, well-built gi).
- Jiujiteiro (sturdy and comfortable, good fit).
- Origin (very innovative, "workhorse" type of gi).
I'm curious to see what everyone else has to say. I think some gi companies are better at making gis that are more appropriate for certain body types, as well as tastes. For reference, I'm 5'9" (~175cm) and 155lbs (~70kg) and of course I have the best taste.

Short YES 5'8", stocky ? Depends on who you ask... I am 170lbs.
One of my old favorites was my original Koral Gi's it lasted forever great quality and shrunk to perfect fit. When I had a side gig for Clinch Gear I tried one from them and it was ok, just ok. I also got a lightweight Gameness Gi, that I am not fond of at all. I have two that are from my gym, not sure who actually makes them as they are thru the professors connections. Killer Bee custom Gi was a good choice because of the size being fit to me exactly. I have been using the GI in the rotation for about 2years and it is still perfect. The pants i got are very stiff and durable and the top is mid weight. One key note with the Killer Bee is that after I washed it and dried it to my liking, I now just wash and then hang dry. My latest purchase was from a non-profit that I support that provides BJJ scholarships to Veterans in an effort to combat PTSD and veteran Suicide. The GI is a We Defy Foundation labeled Gi, although it seems very much like a Tatami Gi. It is great quality, the A2 is a little big on me after one wash, but I shrunk it a bit more this last wash. The gusseted crotch and armpits are a plus. The top also has a liner on the back, which I do like but here in Florida makes it a little warmer than some of my other Gi's.

Inverted panda has treated me very well. So we’ll I feel bad that I don’t own more of their gis. I have two but they’ve lasted for years and haven’t needed another one. 93 brand also works well for me.

I've never wanted to support Moya brand due to the brand owner's character and actions.
Never tried CTRL so can't comment.
I used to love the old (original) Gameness and old MKimonos even though I'm not short or stocky in build. I think they're (MKimonos) no longer around and Gameness has changed their fit.
I found the Keiko Raça kimonos tend to be better suited for short & stocky frames as they were baggy on me.
Some of the classic Atama cuts but nowadays many people lean toward slimmer (competition?) fitted gi.
Ouano gi's look baggier but never tried. They look like they will be better for the short and stocky frame https://ouano.com/product[...]tweight-gi

5'10", ~80kg. I wouldn't call myself stocky, but not slender either.
Fuji has treated me very well. Really can't go past them for value for money. A3 all round is just about the most comfortable gi I've ever worn.
Have a few Tatami that I wear regularly, A2 is just slightly snug for me A2H is better, I prefer the cut of their jackets over most brands.
Also have a Venum contender in A2.5, very comfortable gi for the price, little bit looser fit than the Fuji.
I have an Oss gi in A3 that I got when I was 93kg, too big for me now, but a nice gi overall.

I'm shocked that more people don't have an issue with Moya being a dirty cop that turned snitch. There is a nearby gym that is run by a LAPD cop and he doesn't have a problem with the brand, but I do.
I actually love my $75 dollar Sanabuls. They last me a couple of years and then I buy new ones. My favorite gi is my Carbyne Industries gi. It reminds me of the old HCK yet still soft like a modern gi. I dint know that it is cut for stocky guys

I love my Datsusara hemp gi. Primarily training in Judo, I prefer Fuji gis, as they work well and hold up for both Judo and Jiu-Jitsu.

Have t had a Moya gi in years. I used to be sponsored by them. But, they were the only gi’s that fit me well. Been wearing mainly CTRL and Globetrotter gi’s lately. They work for me but I’m looking for a brand that’s a wee bit more comfortable. CTRL shrinks bad and the Globetrotter gi’s kinda cut into my armpits.

Really digging Half Sumo the last year or so. Unique gi designs, high quality products, and tailored fit.

Their gear looks sick! Inventory is not so great. They only have the first gi listed in multiple sizes.

I use Ka’yo Kimonos, I’m 5ft 8 and am about 190lbs at the minute. They fit well and do a range of themes, they also have collaboration gi’s with various people/organisations Submit the Stigma being one of them.

My two HalfSumos are easily among my most soft Gis.
Could we say that you have one full, soft sumo gi now?

Yeah that's good advice. I ordered an A1, the pants were perfect but the jacket was a bit tight.
My Zen Camp order is A1 pants and A2 jacket ;)

So, here we go!
I've trained since 1995 and had a lot of gis. My preferred list:
Atama: nothing to talk about, an expensive GI (in Brazil), but a very resistant GI. Some models have sleeves a few widths but are ok. Comfortable too, good to wear.
Krugans: very good gis, and the first gi little fashion, with a lot of patches and embroidered designs.
OSS: very similar to Atama
Shoyoroll: little skinny, but very resistant too.
Kings: I like the summer / light models, despite do not like so much the pants.

I've tried a variety of gi's over the years, Atama, Krugans, Shoyoroll, Dragao, Koral, my favorite by far has been Keiko Raça, I've owned several of them. Really good fit for stocky guys.

I am currently 178lbs, 6'1", with long legs and medium torso. My preferred kimonos have been Shoyoroll (though, their sizes have been hit and miss the last several years), Origin, and CTRL Industries (man, do they shrink!). I have been slowly moving my kimonos over to Origin. I do have a few Gi's by dual forces/nous defions which fit like a dream but good luck at getting any.

I had to give my Flow kimonos away as they shrunk lengthwise from A2 to A1 but the width remained ok

My bigger build students have had success with Gorilla Gear.
I myself am 6’4” 200lbs so A3L or A4 is what I roll in. I used to wear a bunch from LankyFG. Their A3L was a perfect fit for me. I had a Tatami A3L but the skirt was too long and sleeves too short. I mostly wear a pair from Origin. Their pants are awesome but the jackets are a little baggier than I’d like. Occasionally I’ll throw on an old Fuji jacket or my old heavy Hayabusa jacket (featured in profile pic) that so far seems indestructible.
I appreciate the previous comments. Curious to try out Vanguard or Inverted Panda’s bamboo weave someday.

Short? No, but I am getting shorter. Graduated college 6'5" and now 6'3". Stocky? Nope, just fluffy. Just North of 250. I have had issues with Gis for few years, ie nobody wants to make them for people my current size. I tend to stick with Fuji and Mizuno(for my Judo comp Gis).

Im really into the Hyperfly Gis.
The pants feel like a pyjama and the sizes are fit for me. But for our heavier guys with some beer belly they wouldn't fit :-D
