Good morning warriors!
This page has a huge potential and if people help each other it goes a long way, I always see a lot of people online but almost nobody voting for a profile, I think it doesn't cost anything for each one to donate 5 minutes to check it, even if it's a profile because I'm sure that this will reset the pendencies... Thank you for your attention, warriors.

Statistics section proves otherwise :)
While I certainly appreciate that it is a lot of votes and a great start, there are over 25,000 members. That only comes to about 5 votes per person. There are of course some users who dominate the voting and a large number of others who don’t vote at all. While my experience is of course anecdotal and may not match trends, I was promoted 3 months ago and have what certainly seems to be a pretty air tight profile I’m still short votes. One of the three black belts in my promotion photo (verified as a 1st degree black belt) has even cast a vote in my favor. I’m not too worried as I’m confident about my place in the sport and I do not intend to start a gym. Were I however in that spot I would be pretty bummed about the slowness of people to look at my profile and vote. I think I need to agree with Davidson that the tendency for members to regularly review a few profiles and vote occasionally could be improved. It’s on all of us though.

From my experience, participating in the forums is a good way for people to notice your profile and maybe take a look at it and throw a vote your way.

Bingo. Also, it’s been my experience that people that make these posts or send messages asking for votes typically don’t do much voting themselves after being verified.

Unfortunately you are probably right on this but I don't think that means the premise is wrong. I know I for one could certainly put in some additional time looking at profiles. Of course when I do look at profiles I see quite a few that really lack much evidence. With a camera on every phone it seems crazy to me that people who have trained less than 15 years or so don't have a picture with their instructor for every belt let alone each promotion.

I know I’m right because this person didn’t even bother to vote for the people that verified him in the first place. All are very well known profiles.

Ideally we would still vote mostly on the people we have met in real life in our various travels and can vouch for from experience, right?

Then, six-degrees of separation style,
https://en.wikipedia.org/[...]separation

vouching for people that are separated by one degree, creating a web of trust.
https://en.wikipedia.org/[...]b_of_trust

[citation needed]

"Hey I met Benoit and Dimitri during my trips to Belgium, they're solid practitioners and if they vouch for xyz with a solid profile in this other country I've never been to, I have no reason to doubt them."

It becomes more difficult for folks in faraway places, right now in Japan we are still very under-represented! I do my part to bring it up "Beltchecker dot com"
ベルトチェッカードットコム? なにそれ?
帯をオンラインで証明する世界中のコミュニティがいる、面白いですよ^^オープンソースみたいなもので、分権化なイメージ、あの組織と違って。

I should get my main coach to register, currently he's just looking into getting the IBJJF to recognize the Black Belt he got in 2002... wish him luck...

I’m okay with only voting for people you know, but if that is your personal voting criteria, don’t beg for random people to vote for you.

Im sure they’d be happy to recognise him as a probationary black belt starting from the day he starts paying them

I get private messages like that.
They won't even vote for my students.

Yup. Three weeks later, he’s still only voted for those five people.

I try and check out all profiles on here when I log my training. To see where in yhe world people train or to try and find places to train. I cast my vote on profiles I find quite interesting and full of detail. I mean my vote is 0 points. So i think I count more for saying hello really and as a way for an introvert to break the ice

Hi all,
Being an OG, I find most media and group platforms a little to Techy for me but thats an age thing.
I do however like the Beltchecker platform because its full of like minded people with predominantly the same interests as myself.
The voting to gain verification I understand but do find a little awkward.
In the Bjj world where I train, not too many have taken up the opportunity to try Beltchecker so I am reliant on others who dont know me to act on trust from viewing my profile. So if people are willing to take time and check through a profile then surely you should forward the same courtesy.
As the statement says "together we are stronger" therefore we all need to give a little time to help one another.
Surely its a mutual respect thing.

Yep. From the beginning, my policy has been "If I don't know you, I don't vote for you". The numerous long threads on this forum haven't changed my opinion on that so far. :D

If I haven't trained with a person, I won't vote in respect of their verification. I know this seems a bit harsh, but I feel more confident voting if I've interacted with the person, in person.

I wouldn't say it's harsh Giles, just that's just the standard you have set and it should be respected.
Everyone has their own criteria and thats what makes this platform great, because even though we have these differences we all still have the same interest. This is why together we are stronger.
We train, we teach, we struggle, we strive, but Beltchecker allows all us likeminded people to interact, learn and swap ideas with each other, we can even agree or disagree with whatever is discussed and thats the joy of it.
I have one question for you though. If Roger Gracie was on Beltchecker would you vote for him or not based on your criteria.

I'd add that I would vote for someone who is personally vetted by someone I've rolled with and respect.

e.g. say that Wim from Belgium where I sometimes visit or some of his students I've rolled with endorse a new member as a purple belt, I'd have no problem adding my vote their. Just having met people a few times and felt how they roll is enough for me to trust their judgment.

I think it's a natural extension of the "degrees of separation" and "web of trust" concepts.

my initial comment was : "Ideally we would still vote mostly on the people we have met in real life in our various travels and can vouch for from experience, right?"

I’d just like to say that everyone should vote for me, because Tatu is too beautiful to hold the number one purple belt spot. You can’t have great hair and be number one, it’s just not fair.

Good question!

If it's someone who has absolutely cleared out the adult divisions at IBJJF euros, Worlds or Panams, then it certainly *could* convince me to vote - "could" is the important word here.

This is the exception, rather than the rule though!

Verified and Vanish :)
Churn on an site like this seems like it will always be kinda hard to fight. For the most part everything now is fed to us via a feed, based on things we've interacted with previously. As a society we've got to the point now where if it takes time/effort to do it, it's less likely to get done. Which seems like our particular sport would be all about the grind and have no problem with it, but apparently not .

One thing ultimately that could probably help with that is push notifications via an app if it ever gets to that point. Having a note pop up when someone verifies you would most likely make people come back at bare minimum to check out the vote. Since the data is being kept as to "last seen", that data could also be used to suggest profiles so an older less active profile is more likely to get a new vote bringing the person back.

With some data being fed into it - favorite subs, favorite positions, etc, etc. Maybe specific people could be suggested to you by like interest, which could generate some conversation and votes.

Speaking of data I would be curious to see how many people come back after initial profile creation versus how many people come back after the first 100+ point negative vote on their profile.
