I was deeply sadden by Professor Octavio's sudden and untimely passing. I was expecting to see him in Asia again in about a month's time, to share "The Most Dynamic Form of Meditation" as he put it.

I'm honored to have started my BJJ journey with him and was promoted to Black Belt by him and Professor Caique. I'm lucky to be able to call him my instructor, but more importantly a friend. I hope he is happy and at peace. My deepest condolences to Rebecca and Olympia, and those who loved and were touched by his life.

Octavio has been for me a teacher and a real friend. He was at the same time, the highest ranked, most famous teacher I know, and the most approachable.

I am lucky for having spent many hours with him in the last years. He was a regular teacher on my mats both for clinics, as he would call them, and for improvised appearances if he was passing by in his neverending travelling. His dedication while teaching was the same in both cases, and several times he stayed longer on the mat, answering any question or rolling an extra round.
Unpacking everything I've learnt from him, is a process that will occupy most of my jiu-jitsu hours for the next years. It will not be easy to keep exploring his unique approach without his personal guidance.

My thoughts in these days are only about his daughter Olympia.
