Getting better at wrestling in general. I've done a total of 6 years of judo before starting jiu jitsu so my no-gi stand up game was pretty much trying to do judo throws with no-gi grips. Now I finally have got a legit wrestling coach and learning slowly how to get a proper single and double leg, what grips are actually effective not just similar to judo grips.

Pain management so I can continue.

In regards to the game: Currently tightening up my arm locking game and setups.

Have you tried any bjj specific yoga training? I have been doing it for about 3 years now and I've noticed a big difference. I get that yoga isn't for everyone, but it's been great for me. :)

Thanks for your response.
No I have not tried that kind of yoga yet.
I've tried regular yoga but not consistently.
Also did Ginastica Natural for some time but not consistently.

I try to get into the cold bath and sauna as often as I can plus alot of stretching, icing and regular exercise to try to mitigate some of my physical issues. THC/CBD gummies or Phoenix Tears help me sleep.

I don't get alot of hours of sleep especially on nights I teach because by the time I get home it's almost 11pm.

I have to be up at 4:30am every weekday for work.

I work in the construction industry and my job is pretty physical.

While I can take it easy in training, there is no taking it easy at work.

Not getting the recovery time needed for my body especially at my age.

Offense... After I hurt both elbows from arm bars I did a deep dive into defense at White belt and discovered Priit Mihkelson and his defensive postures... After 3 years of playing from the bottom I have forgotten how to play from the top as much 😂 but I'm pretty darn good at not getting submitted now. I usually just tire people out letting them try to submit me and then when they are tired I can take over... However that didn't translate even a little bit to scoring points in the tournament lol. Now I feel like a white belt when I'm on top.

Back to the basics as it were! I love this art!

Anyone else find there game get lopsided? How did you correct it?

In what ways have you found that it helps? I've been thinking about starting with yoga for a while :)

Spent the last few years practicing mostly defense (Priit-shit) and it's been a huge game changer for me in many aspects, both for defense, offense and teaching.

This year (and probably also all of 2024) it's all armbars. After having lost way too many favorite submissions to injuries/wear and tear over the years, this one should be good for longevity. 1000 armbars at camp open mats is my goal for next year 🙂

Right now going to take 6 months and rehab some injuries.

Other than that really diving deep to understand more about leverage and the human bod trying to uncover invisible BJJ

Starting to pre-game for master worlds next year. Chaining together a few more take downs. Trying to be more aggressive and not so comfortable accepting a bad position. Sneaky arm bars to replace or augment my sneaky wrist locks.

Position = Back! Everything about the back, getting to the back, maintaining the back, escaping the back, and finishing from the back. Submissions = All manners of chokes and leg locks! Taking a deep dive into toe holds and its variants.

Same long term goal as the last ten years: get better at open guard retention. Medium term, adding more bits and pieces to my 'A' game (which is north-south kimura). Shorter term, I've been having a play with turtle and back control. Very short term, I saw a fun looking d'arce entry versus turtle on reddit, so I was testing that out yesterday.

This year, I have been working on my wrestling from feet really specifically. I just had a hernia surgery though, so in a few weeks, I'll be back to working on flow rolling and using slow pressure and efficient Jiu-Jitsu for probably the next 6 months.

It feels like my whole game is defined by my injuries at this point. Anyone else?

Working on making my jiu-jitsu as lazy as possible, while making it as annoying as possible. But that's what I'm always working towards.

Really just working on improving every student at the gym, and encouraging them to compete. Lots of potential on our mats.

And working on 10P Oulu.

Right now working on more pressure passing from top. I am a dynamic passer, I need to use my weight more to my advantage.

Each week setting an intention, and only attempting the intention for that week. This week is pressure

Just did a tournament where I could only use 1 side of my body and 1 arm. Obviously didn't go well but I learn so much more when I'm forced to do different things or can't use my A game.

Probably learn more when competing injured than when somewhat healthy.

Everything, especially anything that expands my game from more than a guillotine (but I won't pass up that opportunity if the neck presents itself).

Funny I have had several injuries that actually were beneficial to my getting better.. Funny even more so in striking. A spiral fracture to my to my arm actually improved me by leaps and bounds

I haven’t had any major injuries, but when something is acting up and forced me to slow down, I see the most improvement.

I agree with that big time. Rolling one handed after my wrist was broken, and one-armed after shoulder surgery both enabled huge advances in my understanding of position and control.
