Hey everyone,
I’d love to know an average of hours per week trained by jiu jitsu practitioners.
I’ve been doing 5-7h a week since October (5 sessions)
Before that, I was doing 3.5-5h a week for 1 years and 3 months (3-4 sessions).
What’s your average?

I average about 7.5 hours a week (sometimes more somtimes less) but I also manage a construction company at 50+ hours a week.
Tough to balance but I've managed so far.

I usually do 1 hour classes 3 times per week. I may do one less or one more depending on how I'm feeling. I just make sure I get 10 per month so my employer will pay for it.

Yes, it is hard to manage sometimes. I travel a lot for work and those weeks I am out I train in other gyms as a visitor. I would be happy if I could do 2x these weeks.

I would have to say 5-6hrs a week, this includes cross training for strength and flexibility at 40
It’s a necessity. I also help instruct kids juvenile classes 2hrs a week.

Including teaching I get roughly 15hrs a week. Including some open mats and extra training times after classes etc it can be upwards to 20

Average over 20 years is pretty hard to note. Tooooooo many variables.

The most important average is “still continues to train “

Between 20 and 25 hours a week. Last few weeks have been less since I had a bad bout of COVID after Europeans and am just now getting back to my normal training schedule.

Depends what you count as training. I am on the mat 5 to 7 days a week, but most of that is me teaching. In terms of actual sparring/drilling, sometimes I do barely any at all in a week.

Especially as I've got a mild form of bipolar called cyclothymia, it means that in a low phase, I don't want to do anything. So I'll often barely roll and drill when I'm like that, and just stick to teaching. In the hyper/up phase, I'll therefore attempt to cram in as much training as I can. Though even then, still only on average about 4hrs a week of solid drilling/sparring time at most, I reckon?

10 - 12 hours a week for me and 2 hours of S&C in a desperate attempt to fend off injuries haha! I teach an hour every week aswell, sometimes cover if our other instructors are away :)

Participate classes up to 4 times a week, 90 min per session, would total 6 hours/week if I would not skip any classes. But the Excel sheet I use to keep track of my attendance tells just 4 hours/week this year. Which feels like too much.

During my 20 years I've been anywhere between 12 sessions per week (athlete times in my 20s) to 0 per week (injuries, life - also where I am now) :D

Subjectively I felt that 8-10 sessions per week with 1-2 rest days was the highest that was sustainable. Usually (and it's still true to this day and I feel it in camps) is I tend to need a 24-36 hour break after 3 sessions. Whereas these 3 sessions are on consecutive days or on 1 or 2 cnosecutive days - does not matter.

I manage 8 hours to 13 hours a week. It depends. However, once my orders go through, I will probably be hitting 0 hours for the next year between training, details, and assignments. So, even if you don't train as much or just a little, make the most of it. You never know what life will bring your way.

I train specifically jiu jitsu 3 hours per week. But conduct strength training 3-4 times per week and conditioning sessions around 2 times per week. I find 3 hours of skill specific work. I.e bjj works well for me. As I attend class and spar for skill acquisition not fitness improvement.

As a family man with main job and also shifts on weekends, I am consistently on the mat only 4 hours a week at our regular classes/ training sessions.
I teach part time and train on a recreational level.
That’s why my progress is rather slow, but better slow progress, than no progress.
