There is a rule of thumb in climbing gyms that for "x" amount of climbing surface per sq/ft you can expect "y" amount of members.

Wondering if there is a statistic like that for BJJ gyms and what other stats gyms are seeing. Specifically for adult students but would be cool to see for all age cohorts.

For instance

Sq/ft - 1200
Adults Enrolled - 43
Avg Class Size - 15

I've never seen a rule of thumb published, but it isn't hard to work out. I know it takes about 100 sq ft for two people to have a decent roll without constantly running into the people around them. So for 1200 sq ft you could accommodate around 24 people in a class before things started getting crowded.

Fair way to approach it, I guess I am less looking for a practical application but would be cool to aggregate a lot of data to make a scatterplot graph or visual representation.

I dunno about feet, but we have about 200 square meters of mats + some puzzle mats. About 20 active grapplers + another 20 occasionals. We got way more active kickboxers and MMA guys, probably at least double.

Average members per class is aroud 8.

Thanks for the stats Coach Potato if this takes off Ill add it all to a spreadsheet and see if I can create some graphs
