Does anyone adhere to the Gracie diet? I tried it for about a month once and it really made no sense at all, other than not adding extra starches to your diet. I remember reading a Q&A/FAQ with Rorian about some diet specifics and the science behind it, and his answers were like “because”…..”yes”……”no”….”no”…..”because”. He was actively trying to promote the diet back in 2014/2015 and doing seminars. I went to one, and he basically said that if you believe in Gracie Jiu jitsu, you will never achieve a high level without the Gracie diet. Any dietician or nutritionist on here want to weigh in on the science, if there is any, on the benefits of a Gracie diet? Prove me wrong, but unless you have medical issues, nothing beats a normal common-sense balanced diet.

How'bout the Popovitch diet? :D
Honestly, everyone needs to find what works for them. But to maintain the caloric balance while hitting the macros is the key. Calories in vs calories burned.

From their website:
"The main objective is to maintain the meal’s pH as neutral as possible, balancing substances through the right combination.
The balance imagined by the Great Master is comprehensive and meets everyone’s needs. This is mainly based on not mixing: cereal together, fat with sugars and acid foods with any other type.."
Sounds like total bullshido to me.

Well, fat and carbs together is the worst mix you can have. So if you have a tooth for pastries and crisps, you're going to have a bad time. :D

Gracie Diet is pretty silly. But seeing as it was developed by Carlos "I'm a medium for a magic Peruvian spirit" Gracie, not surprising, I guess. ;)

I tried. I had good results. It's about combining the foods well with each other.

I'll stick with my own diet: dead critters boiled in grease and taters.

As with all things, time will tell if the diet is all a bunch of hooey or not.

Diet culture has been a thing for ages now. Every once in a while a new diet comes up that is the best cure for all your health and weight issues. In general most diets are not sustainable in the long run and their effect is usually just because of caloric defecits. Im 39 years old now, and have been the same weight for over 10 years now (before that I used to be very skinny, now Im just lean). The key is watching your calorie intake, and eat mostly healthy foods.
Unless you have some kind of issue with your digestion or food tollerance, dont do anything crazy like keto, carnivore, vegan (outside of ethical reasons) or gracie diet for that instance.

Agreed, I’m 48 and I weighed 185 from age 25-45. I’m now about 205 fully hydrated and fed at the end of the day, but 195 most days, and I also started lifting about 8 months ago to keep on some muscle. My main diet has always just been balanced, paying attention to my body, and making adjustments. I must say it’s a little bit more effort keeping my weight down now, but I just have to be a bit more disciplined with my diet.
