Martial art style vs style https://www.youtube.com/w[...]0-KEOzgpzE
MMA has morphed into a style of its own (mostly due to the rule set). I think there are enough oldies here who remember watching UFC 1-3 with excitement and amazement that hypothetical situations were settled inside the octagon.

Imagine how much MMA would morph again if there was no rounds.

It is hard to repeat that now because Muay Thai, kickboxing, and boxing gyms are everywhere. Not all of them are good, but people can learn basic striking no matter where they live. When I was younger, I wanted to learn Muay Thai and could not find a good gym near where I lived in the States. So I moved to Thailand and stayed eight years. I trained, had some fights, and got what I came for. Back then, moving was the only way to learn what I wanted.
Things have changed since, even though I have not been back to the States in years. Say for example a judoka who knows they have an MMA fight coming up can now find striking training in their own city. That is different from the past, when people mostly stuck to what they already knew because the gyms just were not there.
