Short answer: yes. Competitive judo clubs have amazing conditioning and grip strength training. If they have good mat work, they'll enhance your scramble and your takedown to submission transition game. I've been in several bjj contests where the judo/sambo background was the tipping point in my favor, and many judo contests where the superior ne waza from bjj secured me the win. Cross training is the way.

Being thrown on the floor hurts, so I avoid takedowns as much as possible. I like martial arts where I can just lie on the floor and not do very much, so sticking to groundwork suits me well. ;)
