Looks like it isn't active anymore, which is a shame, but still cool that it exists as an archive of old posts. :) I think you were on places like Cyberkwoon and Martial Arts Planet the same time as me too (2002), I seem to remember posts from you on those? :D
Totally forgot about those old forums

Loads of old MA forums seem to have fallen by the wayside, mostly due to Facebook I think. Which is why it's very impressive that what is in some ways an old school forum like this one on Beltchecker has grown so much.
Having said that, the Beltchecker forum does have several important key differences to old school forums: it isn't anonymous (meaning trolling is much harder, making the forum considerably healthier), there is a ranking system that correlates directly to real life and it was initially seeded with lots of people who already knew eachother in person from BJJ Globetrotters Camps.

Agreed, Can.
The occasional banter is fueled by the fact a lot of us have actually met in real life. That's huge.

Yep! There are soooo many NHBGear people in the doc, plus it's a really cool insight into what BJJ was like in the US in the early 2000s. There are three more parts, in case you had any trouble finding them: Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/w[...]gukC_XOHi4 Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/w[...]OgF8RV4NEk Part 4: https://www.youtube.com/w[...]ewImTDVtI0 I generally watch them all once every year or two. So yeah, big fan of that doc. :D
Dave Jacobs vs Ryan Hall ... man I remember that happening back in the day. RIP Dave.

Yeah, I feel very lucky I got the chance to train with him, so sad he went before his time. Great guy, great instructor. That one seminar of his I went to several years back has stuck with me ever since, easily one of the best I've attended in my 14 years of training.

He'd reached out to do a seminar with us in Montreal. We did not manage to schedule it and I thought, well we can do this next time, no rush. Huge regret.
