I am a journalist / writer / editor for several publications and cultural institutions in The Netherlands, focusing on art, culture & media.
I do creative translation work for voiceover studios that deliver content for Netflix & Disney+.
I'm also a part-time primary school teacher (in training, finishing up my BA).
Jiu-Jitsu has been an integral part of my life for over two decades, but somehow it never felt right to monetize it.
I teach for free at my teacher's club to give back to the art that molded me.
I have been part of the BJJ Globetrotters Black Belt instructor pool since its inception, which gives me an excuse to sometimes teach at training camps for occasional porrada.
Also, I'd like us to get rid of this COVID-19 shite so we can get back to the old ways, thank you very much.

Currently scraping by as a coach/personal trainer/entrepreneur. It's not paying very well, especially nowadays, but I love it. Feels good to help people reach their goals.
I'm never going back to the security field or air conditioning maintenance, where the pay can be extremely good, but I'd just hate the job or suffer with my pollen allergies.

I would have loved to be a competitor, but I'm a BJJ hobbyist due to a medical issue.
I've owned an automotive repair/ tire shop for the past 19 years. Before that, I was a computer programmer for 14 years (6 years in the Air Force and 8 years for an insurance company). I work 6 days a week and typically manage to make it to class 3 days a week.

I'm a Project Manager for the MoD - spent the last year getting cauliflower ears from wearing headphones for way too many Teams / Skype meetings. Hoping it will scare my opponents into thinking my nogi skills are far better than they really are. :-)

Keep at it man, it's going to pay off.

Nice to hear your dedication specially taking one private a week is awesome. Keep it up

I’m a correctional officer at Oslo prison, where we can do training one our at work during the shift. My BJJ training are mostly before late shifts at lunch classes 11:00-12:00. But also after early shifts at 18:15-19:30. Basically there’s no excuse to not train at our gym, as there’s a option to train all day, every day.
Thats true dedication and kudos to your gym

I am a code employee for the police. I do jiu-jitsu around my work schedule mostly by attending 6 am classes.
6am classes require a lot of self discipline. Like sacrificing late night parties and movies etc haha. Keep it up...

Ha, thanks, but hasn't been hard for me. I was a single mom to a baby (b. 2013) and my older disabled daughter (b. 2006) from 2013-2018. I learned in that time that sleep was sacred and I took it where I could get it. I never stayed up late. Guys I dated thought I was lame but I knew that if my baby/toddler woke up at night, no one was coming to relieve me.
I'm remarried now and it's funny because husband is a night owl and I'm early-to-bed, early rise, but we manage!

I'm in a cool situation with my job and Training. I have a full time office job as an outsourcing manager for a global pharmaceutical company. Cool thing is, since we're a global company and I'm organizing things between several countries and timezones across the globe, no one expected me to work 9 to 5 and I can basically pick my work hours. So I can basically structure my work day around Training.
I still consider myself a hobbyists, I don't make money off BJJ, but I can do BJJ 7-10 times a week, depending on what I have to do at work, and I can also lift 6 times a week. Admittedly, not having kids and having a very understanding and tolerate wife helps here too. :)

I'm currently a part-time and freelance BJJ coach (sadly shut down my gym due to the situation). Smaller and larger sized gyms seemed to manage things but mid sized seemed to be most affected.
In the gym business capacity I've done A-Z from operations, coaching other coaches, staff training, website design (copy, image, HTML, Wordpress), accounting, sales, stand by coach, mat mopper, window cleaner, repairman, shower cleaner, plumbing repairs, assembling gear, organizing and hosting local and international workshops (1 week to 3 days long) in S.E. Asia and in Europe, been a traveling BJJ coach in Australia and Europe, gi, no gi, boxing and kickboxing apparel and training equipment designer and sourced manufacturers, logistics, sales and distribution, implemented digital banking systems, developed apps, client therapist, mat enforcer, good cop/bad cop, video maker for BJJ and fitness related and the list goes on.

Professional Rugby player originally from Sydney Australia, now living and playing rugby in France. Still only new to BJJ, going on 8 months now. Really enjoy the art/sport and love learning new things every time I get on the mat. I’m 186cm 107kg and fairly strong and explosive but get smashed by guys 20-30kgs lighter than me every time, and I love it. Since my first bjj introduction lesson I was hooked. Hope this covid lockdown here in France/Europe will blow over and gyms and academies will open up again soon. Oss

I’m a social worker. It’s not the easiest of professions but it can at times be fulfilling and rewarding. The world and society as a whole is in a vulnerable position at the moment and I can’t wait for that to change. Soon! (Although I know there will always be a degree of vulnerability- of course).

I'm a full time English teacher here in Paris France for a middle school.
I also teach English to sports science students in a university, which is a great way to combine my love for languages and discuss the issues surrounding sports. I learn a lot with them.
I'm a no gi instructor in my gym. I used to teach classes regularly but I mostly just fill in when my coach is unavailable lately. I'd love to spend more time teaching and training but there's only 24h in a day ! Ha ha ha !
