interesting topic....im gunna have to go down the rabbit hole and some of these and look into them.....kind of ties in nice with the other thread about if character being necessary or no to be promoted to belt belt.....i condemn the crimes these individuals are accused of but I do admit I do find an interest in looking into their backgrounds and trying to discover where things went wrong for them...was it a particular incident which led them downhill or were they doomed from the start?
And I just started to look into the Cameron Earle story and holy crap!

Seems as though Ralph Gracie is expressing some remorse. Still no apology though...

More like a non-apology.

Yeah there were only hints of remorse in that statement. 6 months seems like a short sentence but it's better than the zero months he tried to get.

Speaking of prison, Joshua Robinson should be out soon, assuming Singapore didn't release him early or something.
Only case I've heard of (so far) where the guy was both a criminal and an apparently fake black belt.

Anybody know what's going on with the Tex Johnson case? Haven't heard anything since the original accusations: https://grapplinginsider.[...]d-of-rape/

My instructor Gumby has loads of Cameron Earle stories. It's nuts to me to find out your training partner and friend is capable of doing stuff like that but I suppose we don't truly know anyone if they don't let us.

According tot he arguments about needing maturity to be a black belt in the string about the 18 year old black belt, there should be no criminals who are black belts.

Anyone ever arrested on any charge ever? Wow.

ADCC organizer Mo Jassim has set up an Instagram page further exposing the sexual predators and their alleged supporters connected to FightSports: Marcel Goncalves, Rodrigo Oliveria Da Costa... (Content warning applies ofc if you get upset by stuff like this.) These have been on his Ig stories too and widely discussed in the BJJ media in the last few days.

being a black belt in any martial art says nothing about integrity, honor etc. Just as every endeavor has low lifes who manage to fake it as instructors we don't know if someone is a con man in business as wife beater at home or a sexual predator etc.
The belt means we have a certain skillset and that is ALL.
That said I have my own code outside of societies and some crimes don't even make me raise my eyebrows and others are unforgivable. Every time i see people rationalizing these instructors accused of being a sexual predator or blindly defending them I lose respect for the person doing it. Yes don't rush to judgement but don't blindly defend either

Lloyd is a real scumbag. He runs his school like a cult of personality and his students are very loyal. Loyal to the point that many of his students that were high profile at the time of the rape didn't want to leave. They were shamed into distancing themselves from Team LI.
The worst part is that he produces really good competitors, many of them from white belt up to black. So he will be on the scene for years to come.

Don't need to tell me I've been training BJJ in the area (from his original school) where they are located for nearly his entire career. I've been one of the most vocal anti-Lloyd guys for 2 decades and am pretty close with many of his former students including Ryan Hall, Seph Smith, Marco Terragrossa and Nakapan Phungephorn (to be fair, Nakapan was teammate of mine for a long time before he went over there) so I get a lot of the inside scoop. Hell, his coach's gym is maybe 5 miles from mine. I am surrounded by his legacy which really sucks.

No not Master Lloyd the get rich quick guy. Perfect example of being a blackbelt not being a good person. I didn't rape that girl, I wanted to but I couldn't get it up ? WTF

"Jackson Sousa https://amp.reddit.com/r/[...]n_germany/" It seems this didn't do Jack much damage. As far as I know he's still the head coach of a Checkmat gym, sponsored by SYR etc. and actively posting on social media without getting a bunch of a knockback. Of course, these were just accusations & he was never accused of criminal activity (afaik). But in this era, people get their careers ruined easily... A shame, in any case, as he seemed like a genuinely good dude the bunch of times I've trained with him. Hard to believe the women accusing him would've done so out of spite. (Anyway definitely not a 'nefarious criminal' no matter what.)
Ohh this is really blowing up now, in the wake of the FightSports metoo... A lot of women have shared their stories with him & they are disgusting.

agreed. To take advantage of someone's trust - especially a student of yours is unexcusable.

That Joel guy is a real piece of work! He was the former instructor/co-owner of one of my affiliates in Memphis. The shit I've heard about him and what he's done is ridiculous! Not just in Florida, but in Memphis. As an instructor and as a business partner, he F***ED over a lot of people. It's not my place to go into details about the guy, but the guy is a real piece of work! Not a good piece of work either. LOL

Sexual abuse by martial arts teachers is rampant, it's not only BJJ instructors but Karate, Kung Fu, wrestling...
Hermes Franca was a friend of mine and even stayed at my house from time to time until I found out that he was hitting on females at the gym and even exposed himself to a few of them. After finding out, I told him to never return or call me again. About 2 years later he got arrested for having sex with a minor in OR. It sickens me.

Jerome Mackey did wonderful things for American judo, but in the 1970s he was indicted for mail fraud and also sued for consumer fraud (which resulted in the closing of his entire school franchise). Though perhaps nefarious is too strong a word. As recently as 8 years ago he was posting anti-bullying videos to YouTube.

Wow, that article’s claim…. “The point of martial arts is to learn how to hurt people”
