... and no worse feeling than getting new gis in the mail and hating the fit. DAMN YOU MANTO AND YOUR IDEA THAT PEOPLE HAVE WEIRDLY LONG ARMS. Or that people have normal arms and mine are just too short...

I was forced to be a gi addict... The kids coach started a gi company and made me a "sponsored" athlete... aka I am the test dummy and get gis at cost or for free if there are changes made to designs. Last count was 19 gis and 23 rashguard sets. I will say the newest gen from them are the best by far.

I have entered into a sort of gi addict recovery phase. I am forcing myself to sell off several of my gis. I need to be able to actually see my workspace. I felt strangely stressed figuring out which ones I was going to try to sell. Its like, I put sometimes very literal blood sweat and tears into these (I washed them don't judge me). I have this weird feeling like I care who they are going to. I really am trying to sell them off to friends first so i know they'll be taken care of. Maybe that's weird. I've never claimed to be normal. I almost feel like I'm clearing out a part of myself.

With all of your experience, what gi make/brand would you recommend for a long-time "hobbyist" (non-competitor) just looking for a long-lasting, comfortable gi at a good price? 185 lb male, 5'10", athletic-rectangular build.

This has been talked about over and over again. There is no good answer because it's different for everyone. I've had the best luck with Hypnotik. They fit well and last a long time under casual use.

For me, you can't go wrong with a fuji all around gi.

I have developed a slight addiction — there are currently 8 gis in my closet and number 9 is on the way. I have 2 whites, 1 grey travel gi, 1 blue, 1 dark blue, 1 black, and 1 olive-colored. For my brown belt promotion I just bought another black one

Welcome friend. This is a safe space. We are all friends managing the same problem effectively.
I managed to pair it down to 10 gis this week by selling off 4 that I was wearing the least or just collecting in my closet because they're cool. Now I feel like I have to replace them lol

I can understand that feeling. I see nice gis all the time and often I find myself thinking oh that one would be great to have in my Collection

I find myself constantly cycling gis. Facebook has groups where you can trade them and that makes it so easy to just try new gis frequently. I've whittled the collection down to my essentials: The OK kimonos training gi they sent me when they sponsored my seminar, my Flow Kimonos navy hemp gi that was a gift from when I got my masters degree, The black flag kimonos gi I won in a contest, a datsusara combat gi, a fuji all around, 4 origin gis, and an isami tora. Any new gis will probably be Origin, Isami, or Takedown Fightwear if they release any gis.

I have 40+, spread across multiple locations to fit them all (my house, my gym and a few at my parents', who live in the same city as my instructor's gym). I'll go get a pic of my main gi wardrobe once the rest of my household wakes up. 😉

Though having so many does at least mean it's been years since I felt the need to buy any others (a lot I got for free from doing reviews over the years).

I am also super lazy in sparring (if I even spar), so in 20+ years of grappling, I've never had a gi wear out.
