Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in January 2006 after making a New Year’s Resolution while in college. I started at Lake Area BJJ (LABJJ), where I earned my blue belt. After graduating college in May 2008, I commissioned into the Marine Corps, attending OCS that summer. While at MOS school, I continued training and competing, earning my purple belt. In December 2009, I received orders to my first unit in San Diego, CA. Over the next three years, I deployed twice to Afghanistan (seven months each) and welcomed the birth of my daughter. I left active duty in September 2012 and relocated to Maryland, then settled in Charleston, SC, in February 2014. In November 2014, I resumed training and competing. I am the founder of the Ecological Dynamics for Submission Grappling (ED4SG) community and Discord server, a global network of more than 2,000 coaches, gym owners, and practitioners exploring evidence-based training methods. (https://discord.gg/zJE7n5Nn) I currently live in Myrtle Beach, SC where I train and coach at Kilo Delta BJJ.
