This guy Ezzat Hiedar from Egypt claims to have "won" a purple belt at our academy.
This is a lie. He has never trained with any of us let alone been promoted. I do not know if his instructor is in on it or not Mohamed Sawzy is aware of it or in on it. They claim they train at SGF Striking Academy in Egypt or whatnot.

I thought these days were long over
It’s unfortunate, but thats why this site is so important in my opinion. You can attach pictures of your promotion and names with your lineage. This is long overdue for our sport!

It could happen here too but it will not be long before the jig is up and they will get caught. Too many people on here and no anonymity.

I don't think these types of people understand how tight the BJJ community is and how easy it is to get caught lying about your rank - unlike many other martial arts where you can identify as a master of Quack-Fu and never get called out for it.

I agree 100% this might have worked with different martial arts years ago, but it doesn’t fly in BJJ today

What’s incredibly sad is that if he’s lying about this...something as silly as martial arts...chances are pretty good he’s lying about a few other things in his life...sad.

How do you 'win' a belt?
By tapping out a higher belt in training you claim their belt, of course! Your gym doesn't have this??

I hope it's been just a mistake of tagging the wrong Instagram account. Tagging a reputable academy while lying to have gotten a belt from there would be... incredibly stupid.

Additionally, in the original post he poses with a black belt, and there's a video of a promotion gauntlet... (the place is obviously not Gracie Humaita Bolton!)

I thought that at first.
He has it on his profile as well.

So many questions:

If a fake belt, why go for purple?
Why tag the gym if you didn't get it from there?
Does strength really get you so

Is it possible that he got it from a coach that is related to your gym and that it is a honest mistake that he thinks that by degree of his coach it is also part of your legacy?

I mean if you’re gonna lie, why go for purple belt? This guy is an amateur liar - he should’ve gone for red!
Right? Shoot for the stars if you are going to lie. Lol

Yes! This one was off the rails.. If I remember correctly this guy was only in his 30's. What an achievement!
And not even a 9th degree but a 10th degree no less! :)
